It was the
hottest-ever summer.
Liza had
never experienced such scorching heat.
Liza wasn't
prepared for what she saw next.
The sea receded
at least a kilometer away from their home on the beach!
Notable was the stump of a tree that was visible.
Her late
grandfather often told her stories of a mango tree he had planted.
Following a
devastating cyclone, the sea had moved closer and claimed it.
Now that it
had receded, buried treasures were visible after decades!
If his tree story
was true, then his piggy bank should be there too!
Liza’s "Mission Treasure" was on!
100 words story for the Friday Fictioneers
