She Can Be You Or Me

She leaves her home to stay with her man,

She adopts the new & does the best she can.

She sacrifices her dreams at the drop of a hat,

She accepts all & willingly becomes a doormat.

She changes her dressing style & personality-

She becomes quiet & dumb; not chatty or witty.

She is expected to make parathas & cook & feed.

She is no more the delicate flower, treated like a weed.

She is busy playing roles like daughter-in-law, wife...

She is not at the driving wheel of the car of her life.

She does not respond when you try to reach & talk.

She escapes from everyone's radar; not scary & no shock.

She may be the average girl next door - She can be you or me.

Do you know such a girl in your circle, locality or city?

Saw this response on X (Twitter) & shared the above thoughts-

Do share what you think- let's connect the dots...

  3. How sad that this poem is still relevant, and pertains to many different societies. Yet how good that you address the matter, which so much needs calling out. You put it very clearly.

  4. This may be true 100 years ago. But not in today's world.
