Supreme Court Decision and Trending Divorce Photoshoot

Two trends were noted this May 1st, 2023- both were about Divorce.

One was the Supreme Court ruling.

The other was a viral divorce photoshoot posted by an empowered artist.

On 1^st May 2023, the Supreme Court (SC) ruled that it can grant divorce under Article 142 of the Constitution and has the discretionary powers to dissolve a matrimonial alliance that has broken down irretrievably. As per the Five-Judge Supreme Court Bench of Justices SK Kaul, Sanjiv Khanna, AS Oka, Vikram Nath and JK Maheshwari:

Grant of divorce (in case of irretrievable breakdown of marriage is not a matter of right, but a discretion to be exercised (by the SC) with great care & caution, keeping in mind several factors ensuring ‘complete justice’ is done to both parties.

April 26^th is celebrated as World Intellectual Property or World IP Day from year 2000 onwards. In 1970, on April 26^th, “WIPO Convention” had come into force. In 2000, WIPO's member states designated April 26 as World IP Day.

2023 Theme

Each year, a theme is assigned. The theme for 2023 is- “Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity”
