Dahibara Aloodum

I love the delicious dish "Dahibara Aloodum". It is tangy, sour, sweet, spicy and lots more with a host of flavours! Twin cities- Cuttack and Bhubaneswar of Odisha- are well-known for this dish.

Like a true fan, I am always ready for a plate of Dahibara Aloodum.

From 2019 onwards, March 1st is being celebrated as "Dahibara Aloodum Dibasa". #DahibaraAloodumDibasa is a day to celebrate the dish- "Dahibara Aloodum".

Today being celebrated as Mahashivaratri, and many like me being on a fast, not getting a real plate today. However, e-Dahibara Aloodum is allowed!

Pic1: Plate full of Dahibara Aloodum

Sharing some images of homemade Dahibara Aloodum, prepared by my sister-in-law, Sradha last month. Yes, "pictures speak more than a thousand words."

Pic1 above shows the final dish. Had been planning to share and today is a great day to finally do so.

Sradha prepared and treated us to yummy Dahibara Aloodum.

But, does "Dahibara Aloodum" refer to just two items- Dahibara and Aloodum- that are mixed together to create this super-sumptuous dish?

The answer is in the following images-

Pic 2: Left- Dahibara; Right-Aloodum

Pic2 shows Dahibara on the left and Aloodum on the right. Coriander leaves (top bowl) and onion (bottom bowl) add extra taste.

Pic3 has an extra item called "Seu" in Odia, a thicker local variety of what is known as Sev/Bhujiya elsewhere. That adds to the crunchiness, but once it gets mixed and merged, it becomes mushy.

Pic4

Pic4 shows two additional items with/for our dish. One is the Ghuguni i.e. the Chana dish at the bottom and the other is the Boondi i.e. a sweet dish - in the bowl to the right of the Ghuguni.
As I like my Dahibara Aloodum dish spicy, I did not add the Boondi, rather had it separately later.

Pic5

Pic5 shows Dahibara occupying major space! After all, the popular name is Dahibara Aloodum, not Aloodum Dahibara, though some call it so.

Pic6

Pic6 shows Dahibara along with all the side-items that get mixed together and create the iconic dish that always occupies a top spot on every Odia foodie's wish-list :)

Pic7

Pic7 shows the close-up. Yes, it is definitely more appetizing and delectable than it looks!

All the items have their individual taste, but when they get mixed together, there is richness and a lovely dish.

Have shared several posts about Dahibara Aloodum in my blog over the years. If I say anything more, I will be repeating myself! You can check these links for more-
