I fell in love with her at first
sight.
Ah! Her carefree laughter and
touch!
She often came and hugged me.
The onlookers sure were jealous
of me, judgmental about our vast age-gap...

When they came to harm me, my ladylove stood in front of me.
I had no fear of their sharp
axes.
She not only saved my life, but
the lives of many like me.
She protected me; yet said that
I granted her security!
Her book about me- "The
Banyan Tree & More" is a bestseller.

I feel terrible when trees are chopped down, what about you? Have you planted at least one tree?

Now that's taking "tree hugger" literally
ReplyDeleteThere's no end to the different types of friendships between the species.
ReplyDeleteDear Anita,
ReplyDeleteLucky tree, that one.
Shalom,
Rochelle
I hope the book is in ebook format only, paper comes from trees.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was 12 or so, my class in Portland, Oregon went out to the vast Tillamook Burn area near the coast. We spent the day planting little trees to replace thousands that had been lost in the wildfires. The experience gave me a whole different outlook on trees, which I had always loved, and still do.
ReplyDeleteWe do destroy them far too casually.
ReplyDeleteAs your MC realises, trees are people too
If only more trees were protected. I really should plant one.
ReplyDeleteMy story!
They do have feelings :-)
ReplyDeleteI have planted a few trees in my time - acorns buried in woodlands as well as trees in my garden.
ReplyDeleteI think we're just beginning really to understand trees and the societies they live in. Yes, as you show, we need to protect them.
ReplyDeleteYes, I've planted some trees. The lilac will be blooming quite soon. We'll eat our own apples and pears this autumn. Trees are great!
ReplyDeleteBear, here. Not sure if my comment yesterday went through. I took a leap though and opened a blogger acct so I could comment on the blogger stories. I love this poem, and the way you personified the tree and it's protector. It's wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLoved the piece.
ReplyDeleteI've tried planting a tree or two before, it's just never grown 🤔.
Their relationship from the poit of view of the tree is so well told, and I'm glad that she could save them all. I've pkanted a few but also had to cut down a few as well (should have torn down the house, it was too close to the trees... :) )
ReplyDeleteBeautifully told by the tree. I have planted trees before and they are still growing in my backyard.
ReplyDeleteThe chipko movement saved the trees by doing exactly the same thing 👍
