Though they were at a distance,
they made an effort to reach out.
Their arms managed to touch.
They seemed to have eyes just
for each other.
All this was evident to me- their
new neighbour.
I hoped not to cause any
obstruction.
I felt guilty to be sandwiched
between the two.
Perhaps, I was being too conscientious?

There seemed to be no change in their behaviour.
Spring gave way to
winter.
Our feet were buried in
snow.
Their branches had no leaves to
brush together.
They lit up by the light I
emitted.
The trees love me – the light-pole.
This story is about a light-pole whose position was between two trees :)
Have you ever felt conscious about being sandwiched between two people? What did you do? How did they treat you?
Best way, if you're the filling in a human sandwich, is to give something back
ReplyDeleteDear Anita,
ReplyDeleteAn interesting take on the prompt. Nicely done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
That was a unique angle from which to create your story.
ReplyDeleteI like that you gave them personalities :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Anita - A very nice personified piece on the prompt. Enjoyed reading it.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am been caught between two people. I try to step back and let the two interact.
I'm sure it was the light of their lives! A great take Anita.
ReplyDeleteMy story!
I understand that trees can love each other, but a lamppost?
ReplyDeleteIntriguing thought, Anita, hinting at a much deeper meaning.
What a lovely metaphor you have drawn here. If we're going to give sentience to trees, then why not lamp posts? I love it.
ReplyDeleteAh, perhaps all they need is a bit more time to .. um ... grow closer ... ;)
ReplyDeleteA sweet love story.
ReplyDeleteWell done. I love the parallel.
