Dream Come True?

When she first set foot in her parent’s house, she knelt down and kissed the floor.

It was her way to show respect to the home that had seen her childhood.

After her mother's untimely death, she had gone abroad.

She was back after two decades!

The fragrances reminded her of departed dear ones.

But, her mother's fragrance was strong.

Memories came alive.

Photo Prompt- Sarah Potter

She dreamt that her mother had prepared her favourite meal.

She woke up feeling full!

But, she could still smell the fresh food!

How was this possible?

She pinched herself.

The sound from the kitchen was real.

100 Words story for Friday Fictioneers

What do you think happened in this story? Was she still dreaming?

Don't you feel that some smells never really go?

Do you believe that our near and dear are our guardian angels?

  5. Smells linger longest in our memory. She was probably still dreaming. On the other hand...

  9. My practical mind takes me to some relative who knew her mother came in and is preparing what is known to be her favorite food. But even if it's only a memory, it's a rather nice way to wake up :)

  10. Lovely remembrances of life when her mother filled the house. I'm always amazed how strong memories flood in when I smell a certain odor or fragrance. Nicely written!
