Odisha Rasagola earned the Geographical Indication (GI) tag on July 29, 2019.

This news did not get the deserving attention by many national newspapers and some media channels.
Even now there is misleading and fake news regarding Rasgulla- Misinformation About Rasagola Still Continues.
Thus, many are not aware of this GI tag of Odisha.

How can the facts come to light when there is propaganda or when they are suppressed?

W.Bengal applied for "Banglar Rasogolla"on 18Sep'15; GI on 14Nov'17.

The spelling of Odisha Rasagola has the spelling "Odisha" as the application was submitted in 2019.
However, "Orissa Ikat" and "Orissa Pattachitra" have the old spelling "Orissa" as they were registered before Orissa state's name change to Odisha.

Using the correct spelling is important as it is linked to the identity of a product and also a place.
Glad that persistent advocacy has ensured the name and spelling usage as Odisha Rasagola.

Do note the spellings of Rasagola in Odisha Chief Minister, Sri Naveen Patnaik's BEFORE & AFTER GI TAG tweets shared above- "Odishara Rasagolla" to "Odisha Rasagola"!

Many books have the information that Rasagola originated in Odisha.

The book- "Sweet Treats around the World- An Encyclopedia of Food and Culture" has been published in the year 2014 in the USA. It mentions that Rasagolas originated in Odisha.

Note the year of publication- 2014.

The so-called "war" started between the states in 2015 - the year of the Nabakalebara Ratha Yatra when Odisha celebrated #RasagolaDibasa for the first time on Social Media.

Rasagola has link with the Shree Jagannath Temple, Puri, Odisha, for many centuries. It is offered as 'bhog' on Niladri Bije, the last day of the Ratha Yatra.

Apart from being offered as a bhog on Niladri Bije as a continuing tradition for centuries on the last day of the Ratha Jatra, Rasagola has a deep cultural link with its birthplace Odisha and with Odias.

This book- "History On My Plate" by author Lily Swarn too states the same.

In January 2014, this author conducted a Quiz on Odisha in Twitter and on blog. People need to be made aware about Odisha's invaluable treasures like the Rasagola... 
If people don't know, it doesn't mean that it is not true.

Odisha Rasagola
I am writing A-Z posts about the Geographical Indications (GIs) of Odisha #OdishaGI.
GI is a distinctive certificate used to identify a product as originating from a particular region or locality that has specific qualities, reputation or other unique characteristics. GI products are linked with the culture, traditions, history etc. of a geographical location. 
Only when info is shared, people can learn and be aware.
This is my sincere attempt to share information about the GI Tags of Odisha.
