Exhibition Of Geographical Indications Of India At IITF 2018

Top post on IndiBlogger, the biggest community of Indian Bloggers
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry and some private individuals and government and non-government bodies and trade and industry representatives viz. Geographical Indications Registry (GIR), Department of Industry Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM), National Informatics Centre (NIC), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) etc. are focused on bettering trade prospects.

This can be enabled with more Geographical Indications (GI) registration and empowering the artisans. Ministry of Commerce is promoting Intellectual Property (IP) and GIs with #LetsTalkIP hashtag.

A Geographical Indication refers to a product that has a specific geographical history and origin and possesses qualities and reputation that are due to that origin.
Recently, a new logo and tagline was adopted for GI.
Geographical Indications are the "invaluable treasures of incredible India."
DIPP, in association with the above-mentioned bodies, is organizing an "Exhibition of Geographical Indications of India" at the 38th India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2018 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, from November 14-27, 2018. This is a welcome initiative to make the public aware about the GIs of India.

The exhibition-cum-sale is at the GI Pavilion in Hall - 7 A & B. The exhibition is a unique opportunity for the visitors to experience, touch, feel and taste and learn more about the various GIs of India at the IITF at Delhi.

It is an honour to receive the invitation of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to represent Odisha. President's Award winner and state awardee Orissa Pattachitra artist, Ms. Saudamini Swain, is accompanying me.
At this GI Exhibition, we are showcasing 10 of the 14 Geographical Indications Of Odisha i.e. #OdishaGIs.

The visitors to the GI Pavilion are amazed with the wealth of information. Exhibitors get a chance to learn about the other GIs too. They get to share GI info with all - college students, families, Government officials...
There are information leaflets/hand-outs for the visitors. The Exhibitors are encouraging the visitors, especially the students, to collect the information sheets about the GIs and to share with their friends. It is so wonderful to find the interest and keen response.
The future of our India depends on her citizens, especially the youngsters. Exhibitions are a way to reach out and share.
Do watch this video coverage of the GI Pavilion by this talented and enthusiastic little boy, Nick, who was delighted and impressed by what he saw:

November 21st is being celebrated as Odisha Day at the New Hamsadhwani Theatre, Pragati Maidan, IITF, New Delhi. A lot of events- dance, music etc have been planned from 3 PM to 5 PM viz. Odissi Dance, Singhari Dance, Mahari Dance, Dhap Dance, Rasagola Song and Dance Performance and Jodi Sanjha and Ranapa.
Such exhibitions and celebrations can inform the visitors about the rich cultural heritage of our great land. They can ensure business opportunities for our handicrafts, handlooms, agricultural and manufactured goods.

Blogs are a great way to share information and images about Geographical Indications (GIs) of Odisha and raise awareness. Presently, many are ignorant about GIs. Trade can be enhanced by GIs. I will be sharing blog posts with info about the various #OdishaGIs.

Did you know about GIs?
If you are in Delhi from November 14-27 '18, please do attend the "Exhibition of Geographical Indications".
