The True Student

“I have not studied”,“Left an entire chapter”,
Just before the final exam I revealed nervously,
They shook their heads & staged mock laughter.
When I tell the truth, why don’t they believe me?

The question-paper luckily had what I knew,
I figured out some questions & wrote the answers.
Tough to believe that the unread questions were few.
I wrote whatever came to my head- prose/verse!
When I Tell The Truth - WOW

It was Results Day; I went with zero expectation.
The results had been displayed for all to see.
“I can’t believe I have topped!” was my reaction.
When I tell the truth, why don’t they believe me?

If I probe the ways of the world, I may go bonkers.
Being true to myself is what I sincerely try everyday.
If the world doesn’t believe me, it’s not a curse.
When I tell the truth, I own the truth & what I say.

“This above all, to thine own self be true,
And it must follow as the night of the day,
Thou can’st not then be false to any man.”
                                                    - Shakespeare

  1. Firstly, a beautiful poem. Second, I felt you are writing story of my life. Though I never topped. But I used to leave chapters and got luck more often than not.
