There were five vacancies for a research-project, but fifteen aspirants.
All had gathered at their professor's residence.
The professor asked them to have latte.
Each student was to serve latte for self.
The students sipped in silence awaiting the list of the chosen five.
As the professor read out the five names, the ten not-selected students
looked disappointed.
"I like all you learned fellows. As there are only five posts, I had to devise this test...
The cup you chose - whether ceramic or Styrofoam/plastic played a deciding-factor for selection for this "Environment" project."
The students had learned their lesson.

With your professor, you'd probably choose the more up-market cup whatever your views on recycling
ReplyDeleteDear Anita,
ReplyDeleteStirring blend of three prompts.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Most beverages taste better out of a real cup or glass, so I think the old prof is a meanie!
ReplyDeleteA very ingenious professor to put it mildly! A test that would warm the very cockles of every heart that cries out against global warming.
ReplyDeleteThe selection procedure was funny!
ReplyDeleteTopical take Anita.
ReplyDeleteIn your attempt to mix prompts, there feels a disjointing. There are missing words to make your sentences complete and give it flow.
ReplyDeleteThe premise of the story is a good one though.
I love your idea. Ingenious way to narrow the field.
ReplyDeleteAn ingenious take on the prompt.
ReplyDeletereally fun and I have heard this really happens in real life - little tests like this....
ReplyDeleteSmart guy, that professor. He's got some good students there.
ReplyDeleteI love that surprise ending. It had me wondering what I would've chosen. What if a student hadn't chosen to drink?
ReplyDeleteA simple yet effective test. Clever - the prof and you!
ReplyDeleteClick to read my FriFic tale!
save the planet!
ReplyDeleteQuit inventive professor.. good for him

Good way to choose the students for an environmental project!
ReplyDeleteSorry, I'm not usually "unknown" says Sascha Darlington.
DeleteGood way to choose but I'm thinking I might have failed that test.
ReplyDeleteI'd be so mad at myself if I was one of the students who chose Styrofoam! Fun story!
ReplyDeleteLooks like the professor has a true coffee filter for work. And the team lead is the person who carries their own reusable mug :-)
ReplyDeleteVery topical. Great job!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to narrow the candidate field.
ReplyDeleteA very clever story, nicely done! =)
ReplyDeleteOh! A very interesting test.
ReplyDeleteInteresting and intellectual write up.
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful message!
