Ekamra Van Bhubaneswar #AToZChallenge

Top post on IndiBlogger, the biggest community of Indian Bloggers

Bhubaneswar has many beautiful and well-maintained gardens and parks like Nandankanan and Ekamra Van to name a few.

Ekamra Van is an impressive garden in the Old Town area of Bhubaneswar. Located on the Western bank of the Bindusagar tank, Ekamra Van has over 200 medicinal plants and trees.
The garden was opened for the public in 2009.
Apart from the fragrance of the medicinal plants, visitors also get to enjoy a great view from Ekamra Van. It is a sight to behold the Bindusagar tank and some ancient temples.

Traditional craftsmen from Buddhist site Lalitgiri and Raghurajpur Crafts village have designed the garden. Ekamra Van has been built with similar stones as used in the monuments of the Old Town area. Ekamra Van blends in with the heritage sites in the vicinity.

Ekamra Van is ably managed by the Ekamravan Medicinal Plant Garden Society and the Forest Department.

Visitors can buy medicinal herbs from Ekamra Van's nursery that sells saplings and plants.
Always great to carry memories that grow over time!

The entrance fee of Rs 2 is too reasonable.
The last stop of the Ekamra Walks (a free guided tour of Old Town temples in Bhubaneswar every Sunday 6:30AM-10AM) is usually Ekamra Van.

Ekamra Van is a cool place to walk/run!
Visit Ekamra Van, enjoy the garden & have fun!

Are you aware of any garden with medicinal plants garden in your city/somewhere? Do share.

  1. A medicinal plant garden sounds like an excellent idea. Kudos to them for keeping the entry ticket so low (practically free).

  7. When I lived in Southern California there was a Buddhist Temple in Hacienda Heights. It was a beautiful place to visit and we even had several meetings for our school district held there. - Margy

  8. Interesting post. Once upon a time when I lived in the city and into medicinal herbs I thought it would be fun to grow my own. Something to think about again now that I have a yard.
