That Touch

When she refused to marry the groom,
As his family demanded dowry that day,
In the marriage-hall there was gloom,
The groom & his family walked away.

Onlookers felt she was being foolish,
Rejecting a groom with high market value!
How to make a bride & her family realize this-
The groom has been groomed to extract his due!

"Now who will marry this girl?" wondered all.
A smart gentleman was promptly on the stage.
He walked up to the bride, cool, confident & tall,
And taking her hand in his, he proposed marriage.
Writing Prompt

There was something different about that touch- she could feel.
Many had held her hand before; never felt the way she felt.
His warmth, goodness & reassurance sealed him the deal.
She was touched & agreed to be his wife; touch was his wealth!

As time passed, no more touch or marriage touch-up,
Those first promises were forgotten day & night...
Had all been well she'd feel she had won the victor's cup.                       ,
Now she has learnt- 'First impressions are not always right.'

    1. Thanks for stopping by.
This is a short poem catering to multiple prompts & hence could not explain in details.
What makes things go wrong? I guess lack of touch & lack of being in touch...

  2. A great poem expressing the various expressions echoed in society. It's not an easy life for many such unfortunate souls.
