The Face Of The Race

As they clapped their hands in super-glee,
Their masks fell off and they looked ugly.
Photo Prompt- Magpie Tales
They were witnessing a rat-race happily,
Where contestants were matched unequally.

There was such a mix- short, tall, thin, burly-
Any sane person could see what I saw easily.

Yet for them nothing was amiss or strange really-
They continued to cheer for their favorite madly!

The champ vanquished his co-contestants hungrily,
He succeeded not by fair-play, but rather unfairly.

Still, the crowd's darling had public-support greatly!
Money had bought the judges & crowd greedily.

"All is fair in love & war" they chanted fervently.
Though it was tedious, I opposed vehemently.

No acceptance- My lone voice was a waste in the cacophony...
Today, I have company- Speaking with me are many!

The race is now fair; the deserving win- we ensure earnestly.
The face of the race reflects the ideals we uphold strongly.

Everyone accepts the truth, justice & fairness sincerely-
The world's a better place with ACCEPTANCE actually.

  1. Oh.. Emily will flourish on free avenues
    of human expression.. her voice
    will be heard alive..
    and finally
    LIGHT
    of feeling
    of heart
    will come
    to eyes
    i scream
    i
    am
    Emily
    i
    am
    ALIVE
    IN EYES
    OF EMILY!..:)

  2. I can see a number of Dickinson's techniques in this--especially the slant rhyme and the use of dashes. The topic quite timely..

  8. I have been thinking of 'Fairness' and 'Truth' for long time... They come up with a lot of questions. World may not be fair with all but we can definitely be fair with us and that gives the guts to face the unfair world :) Thanks for this inspiring poem, dear :) TC, keep smiling :)

  9. Anita, you've poured the emotions so well on how unfair games are being played. Inspiring and for us to reflect.
