Utkala Dibasa

Odisha, a state in India, has a rich cultural heritage and ancient history.

1st April is celebrated as Utkala Dibasa. It is also called Odisha Dibasa or Odisha Day.
In Odia language, Dibasa means a day of celebration.

On this day in 1936, Odisha was created as a separate state. It was the first state created on linguistic basis.
Odisha was previously called Utkala. Utkala finds a mention in our National Anthem too.
On the occasion of Utkala Dibasa, buildings are lit and there are celebrations.

Here is the video of the song 'Bande Utkala Janani' (Hail Utkala Motherland)

Apart from #UtkalaDibasa & #Odisha, 'Jai Jagannath' also trended on Twitter on April 1st.
Jagannath means the Lord of the Universe.
The Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha is one of the char dhams (four places of sacred religious worship) that a Hindu must visit in a lifetime.

  5. Wow! Our country's each corner is incredible! Visited the quiz page, I don't know answer for any of the questions... But, I learnt something about Utkala, i.e., Odisha; what I knew was paddy fields, floods and Puri Jagannath that's all...! I am not a Odiya nor I visited Odisha so far, still, I feel very proud of Odisha. Please tell us sometime why Utkala became Odisha.

Happy Utkala Dibasa :) (Belated though)
    TC! Keep smiling :)
