As a child, I watched the Hindi movie- Jhuk Gaya Aasman and believed what's portrayed there as it was in tune with the stories I had heard. The hero dies and goes to the other world in a queue. There they refer to a huge book and try to locate his details- the page of his good deeds and bad deeds! That would decide his soul's future course!

The Hindi movie- Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic explains the points system with our good works adding to our score, while our evil works deducting it.

In Physics, I read that-

'matter can neither be created nor destroyed; it can only change from one form to another.' 

Putting all the above together, I concluded that whatever good we do gets carried forward with our soul after our death.

So, what happens after death?

Hindi movies have dealt with the rebirth & reincarnation concept.

I loved the movies like Madhumati, Mehbooba, Milan etc in which lovers got united in the next birth.

Movies like Karz and Karan Arjun highlighted that the villains can't get away with murder & the heroes will have the last word. Great when justice and truth triumph at the end.

Many Hindi movies like Ek Tha Tiger show the "dead" as stars in the sky.

The movie- Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam portrayed the hero's dead-father as thunder in the sky.

In quite a number of Hindi movies like Bhootnath & Paheli, we have the dead conversing with the living and vice-versa.

In the recent movie- Alone, the conjoint twin, who dies after the operation and becomes an evil spirit, makes life difficult for her twin who has survived...

I loved the Hindi-movies- Talaash and Om Shaanti Om with a superb super-natural theme, in which the ghosts themselves serve as witness and help avenge their murders...

In other Hindi movies like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai & Mohabbatein, the dead heroines are shown on the same frame on the screen- that they are happy with the happy ending!

The following lines, from the Hindi Movie- Anand, express death very beautifully:

"Maut tu ek kavita hai...
Mujhse ek kavita ka waada hai milegi mujhko...
Doobti nabzo me jab dard ko neend aane lage;
Zard sa chehra liye chaand ufak tak pahunche;
Din abhi paani mein ho raat kinare ke kareeb;
Na abhi andhera ho, na ujala ho, na raat na din;
Jism jab khatm ho aur rooh ko saans aaye."

English translation:

"Death you are a poem...
A poem has promised me that we shall meet...
