WAKE UP...

He pulls the rickshaw loaded with heavy goods.
She washes utensils and clothes & scrubs floors.

He attends to the fiery customer’s & owner’s wrath & beatings.
She inhales the toxic fumes while making matches & fireworks.

He cycles long distances to deliver newspapers.
She collects steals flowers even from her notorious neighbor.

He carries heavy sacks on his tender shoulders.
She waits in the queue and fetches extra buckets filled with water.

Their tiny hands and brains are busy ‘working’ & have tasks in store.
At the end of the day or month, they await the fruits of their ‘labour’.

Some have parents. Some don’t. It doesn’t matter.
They all are trapped in the web of hunger…
Hunger matters. Makes them slog…

The money- coins, notes they ‘earn’, earns them food.
But, do they get a balanced diet & a life that's good?

For good health, proper diet is needed for growing children.
Unfortunately, not many can afford or get a good meal.

Classroom & education seems far-fetched for children who don’t even get a square-meal a day…
For a better world, the future of the world must receive attention in the present.
Children need quality food and education as a present (gift) in the present.

Thanks to organizations like the Akshaya Patra, everyday many less-privileged children have an incentive to attend school so that they get the opportunity to enjoy the delicious meal served to students of schools.

Every child deserves a decent life & opportunities to grow.

Wake Up! We too CAN & MUST do our bit to help kids emerge out of the web they are stuck.
Let every child attend school, get educated and get good food to eat in their luck...

Our sincere efforts can help eliminate classroom hunger & spread cheer.
Did you know that in just Rs 750, a child can get a meal for an entire year?

He uses his hands to do a labour of a different kind- hold a pencil and write on a note-copy.
She uses her hands to eat the nutritious food she is served at school & is happy.

Let them use their hands for education and food today & have no sorrow.
The same hands will shape our country and world’s future tomorrow…

    1. Thanks a lot. But, didn't intend it to be a poem... Most sentences don't rhyme.
Just wrote it in this way- 2 sentences together to express the idea better :)
      Thanks for reading!

  7. What a touching poem, Anita. I wish no kid ever has to work, and can enjoy good health and education. Akshay Patra seems like a God send initiative.
