“Who am I?” I ask myself seriously.
The sands of time show a pretty reflection.
What others see isn’t the complete me...
There’s so much more than first-impression.

They can’t read my thoughts nor see my inner-beauty.
Advertisements about me don’t find expression…
The judges’ evaluation of me is far from reality!
As I’m misjudged, I can’t allow myself the transgression!
I do unto others as I’d have them do unto me.
I’m wise, nice with sophistication despite their allegation!
I have tread many miles of journey with myself for company.
I’ll continue with confidence- sincere participation in every exploration!

Why
is the world so focused on physical assets- bank-balance,
material-possessions, external beauty/body/cleavage...? What's the value
of good thoughts, clear heart, inner beauty & values like honesty,
discipline etc. today? What is important to you? #TreasuredAssets

ReplyDeleteYes, yet people judge us in those few seconds :)
DeleteThanks Beloo!
Profound take on the prompt. The fallacy of human life when we are judged based on hear say and it's sad.
ReplyDeleteThanks Vishal :) True. Vast difference between what others think we are & what we truly are...
Deleteyou are so right!!
ReplyDeleteThis is reality :)
DeleteBeautifully said.

Confidence is the word...well penned!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Datta! Confidence can take us places :)
DeleteSo thought provoking Anita and beautifully written.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was young I would often wonder who I was but now that I'm older
and, I have to say, wiser, I am quite comfortable in my own skin and indeed,
do try to treat others as I would wish to be treated.
Good post.
Best wishes,
Di.x
Thanks Trubes for sharing your views.
DeleteYes, same is the case with me. We have to be comfortable & grateful in the skin we are in :)
I am getting some vibes. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat lines my friend!
Thanks Indrani :)
DeleteThanks Ashwini :)
ReplyDeleteYes, personality counts a lot.
do whatever you want to do without thinking about others
ReplyDeleteSometimes yes & sometimes no, Cifar.
DeleteWe do have to think of others.
May others not think wrongly of us, just basing their views on our appearance/material assets...
Beautifully done Anita... :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Mani :)
DeleteIt's correct that one can be a better judge of oneself...you have written it gracefully....:)
ReplyDeleteThanks Arpita for your appreciation :)
Deletea good one Anita and how clever of you combining so many prompts..wow!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind words, Sumanaji :)
DeleteWow, I see this poem that you wrote in September keeps fitting into more and more prompts. Amazing!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to write a new poem for the topic, but couldn't get myself to.. had to share this one!
DeleteNo, this was written for so many prompts! Have just added 2 more after publishing :) (One is the IndiSpire topic I had proposed & the other is your identity prompt!)
I hope I never find myself in a situation where the evaluation of myself has nothing to do with who I am.
ReplyDeleteMay we all be true to I, Me, Myself :)
DeleteI think this is in many ways a universal poem. Who of us is really known by anyone?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your observation, Peggy! I agree.
DeleteLove this - and what a whimsical, tongue-in-cheek title!
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy!
DeleteThe title was a prompt proposed by WriteTribe. Wrote this poem in response to that!
loved this, apt message, beautiful
ReplyDeleteIdentity
Thanks Cifar :) Glad you liked it!
Deletei like the do unto others...when you say they can not truly see you...we need to remember that as well as we approach them....well played response...
ReplyDeleteVery true, Brian.
DeleteThose who cannot truly see us, can't see what we are doing for them as well! People can be blind to our goodness...
Thanks a lot for sharing your valid point.
Loved it... Brilliant usage of words and metaphor... :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your lovely words, Ramya :)
DeleteAnita,
ReplyDeleteI think it is both good and wise to reserve a piece of ourselves, as an inner character. It defines us from others! A very characterful poem..
Sorry for the lateness of my visit to comment,
Eileen
Thanks for your wise words, Eileen!
DeleteYou are right. No one knows that piece of us- our inner character...
That's why we are the one who know ourselves the best! Just because others don't know us, they can't accuse us!
Delighted to hear from you. Lateness doesn't matter! Intention & comment does!
