The royal
astrologer was being consulted about the Prince’s horoscope.
“He will
have two ladies in his life shortly- a Witch & a Princess…”, he predicted
confidently.
The Queen
was very worried.
She inquired, “But, whom will he marry? How will he recognize the right girl for him?”
After doing
some more calculations, he shared, “Another thing- If he marries the right
girl- the Princess, then it will rain on his wedding night. But, if he marries
the Witch, then there will be no sunrise the next day…”
The Queen
asked him, “What do your stars predict?”
“Who am I to
predict, Your Highness? Marriages are made in Heaven. Only God decides…”, the
astrologer shrugged.
The Queen
invited all the eligible girls of marriageable age to the palace.
The Prince interviewed
each one of them and selected two of them.
However, one
of them was the ugliest of all the girls, while the other lady was pretty &
charming.
He decided
to know them a bit better before deciding.
The Queen
still had the astrologer’s prediction in mind.
But, as she
remembered his warning too, she had left the final choice to the Prince.
The Prince
chose the ugly lady to be his wife.
The pretty
lady, who claimed to be the Princess, was heartbroken… She vowed revenge.
She threatened that she would
get her father’s army and battle it out with the Prince...
On the day
of the wedding, the public was wondering if their handsome prince had done the
right thing by agreeing to marry the ugly lady, and then earning the wrath of
the pretty lady…
The Prince
got married to the lady he had chosen.
After they
had exchanged vows in the Church, the Priest told the Prince, “You may now kiss
your bride.”
The moment
the Prince kissed his bride, she got magically transformed to a pretty lady – she
resembled the same lady whom the prince had rejected!
Everyone was
surprised.
The bride
then told them her story, “I am a Princess. I was coming to the Palace when a
Witch swapped my looks with her’s! She thought the Prince would select based on
looks! Now that he has married me, the spell is broken & the Witch is now
powerless!”
There was a
grand ball where the Prince & 'Princess' danced happily.
Everyone was invited to a grand feast.
The Queen
was still in a dilemma if her new daughter-in-law was really a 'Princess' as she
claimed.
She thought,
“For all one knows, she can be a Witch too! Witches can change their form
easily! This might be a trick to fool everyone!”
