Last week, I posted about Ratha Jatra Puri.
Today is "Bahuda Jatra" i.e. Return Journey.
On Bahuda Yatra, the three Gods return to their abode- the Shree Jagannath Temple, Puri after a nine day long outing.
On Rath Yatra day, the siblings set out on their Raths i.e. chariots to their aunt's place.
A sea of humanity greets them!
Devotees wait to lay their eyes upon the deities and to pull their chariots...
The Rath Yatra is a centuries old festival that is still celebrated in Puri, Odisha, India and also all over the world.
The siblings happily set out of the Shree Jagannath Temple, Puri to visit their aunt who lives three kilometres away.
The deities go to the Shree Gundicha Temple where the devotees visit them...
On the day of the Bahuda Yatra, they return to their abode in the same Raths.
The devotees throng and the event is celebrated with traditional fervor.

No festivity in Odisha is complete without the sweets - Rasagolas!
As per the rituals, the deities are offered Rasagolas.
They also get a taste of Poda Pitha.

Next year is special as there will be the "Nabakalebara" celebrations in which the Gods will attain new bodies, after a gap of 19 years.

nic pic blog .. btw please dont hate me for this because i'm saying this second time but i strongly feels visual impact of a blog counts in good blog .. so you seriously need to adjust the width of pic accurately .. some pic overlapping the sidebar .. get the img css done in proper way or choose medium in image view !

DeleteYes, even I can see that the right panel overlaps with the same pic. However, it's a bit on the right-hand-side & the main Chariots & Temple are not obstructed.
Will take care in the future to have max XL- sized pics as the Original Sizes are too big to be accommodated without overlap...
Thankfully, the rest of the pics are fine as there is nothing on the right panel to interfere with them! :)

Reg the plantain leaf: What is the way putting the leaf? Whether the narrow side is towards left or the broad side towards left? As I know, the broad side remains towards left while taking food. But I asked some of my friends from different dists and they told that they used to keep the narrow side towards left.
Do you have any idea as to why there is the difference or it is just a practice?

DeleteYes, many are very particular about the how the leaf is served.
The narrow side is towards the left, while the broader edge is on the right.
This makes sense for right-handed people. We can serve more items if the right-hand-side of the leaf is wider.
While in comparison, the narrower edge can't have more items & it's better to put it to our left.
I feel - the reason of the difference is convenience.
Will check with our gaon-purohit & let you know his views.
This was point told by one of my friend from Puri area. But in so many villages of Khordha area, it is just different. As they say, broader side to be towards left so that more amount of rice can be served. Ok, u check with purohit and let us know.
