If Clothes Could Talk...

They'd endearingly ask us to take good care!
Excite us to flaunt them with flair!

They'd cry- "WEAR ME! Don't just stand!"
"Extract me out of the Cupboard, do you understand?"

"Staring blankly at your wardrobe isn't encouraging of you!"
"You have ME in your collection, still you have no clue!"

"Yet you always complain that you have nothing to wear!"
"I wanna cry & scream 'EEKS' loudly while you stare!"

"I'm extremely sick & tired of lying here for so long..."
"Your splurging on new clothes is so wrong..."

"Pick me up and let me feel your love again..."
"I wanna experience the same love, not this pain..."

"Do you remember the last time you had worn me?"
"I still swell with ecstasy with those compliments lovely!"

"You have earned attention thanks to my colour & quality!"
"Do you deserve me considering your negligence & apathy?"

"On second thoughts, donate me to someone who is needy..."
"Enough of wasting my time with someone who is so greedy!" :P

Inspired by the hashtag-   on Twitter today!

My poem for ABC Wednesday - E For- Endearing, Excite, Extract, Encouraging, EEKS, Extremely, Experience, Ecstasy, Earned, Enough...

  1. Beautiful great thoughts so well brought out. Wish i can recite this aloud to all the youngsters who are splurging hopelessly these days. And now with online shopping the situation has gone bad. It is a vulgur display of conspicuous consumption. Yeah donation...right but i wonder if u have realized...they don't want us to touch their wardrobe anymore. i am blessed but i see the sad plight of frustrated mothers...panic buying of all kinds for these theme parties and what the heck even for sleepovers. Where r we going...i ask...but i tell u somewhere down the line i always feel it is bad parenting. i know many won't agree...but if everything can be taught why can't values be inculcated. Value for money right from the start. And along with it all the related values. But of course who has the time these days. With both parents working and the kids to be looked after aayaahs and even if mom has managed the time she barely manages to look over the projects, tuition fixing and home work...
How many moms have that relaxed free time to sit with their children to teach them values...through their own actions, through the bedtime stories. Moms are all as stressed out today as the kids Dad. All everybody seems to have is plenty of money to splurge. Trust me Anita...no where it is more evident than in my own ostentatious sadda Dilli. Sad ! Sad ! Sad !
Mostly it is the parents who think the best way to show love and affection is by spoiling their sweet kids. Finally they turn brats and then...back to square one...parents crib," Zamana hee kharab hai...peer pressure..."
Wish Anita CLOTHES could create some racket some noise...the least that can be done is to donate them for a good cause but sometimes even that is not possible...
Very kind of you to highlight all that needed to be. Great :)

    1. Thanks Shivani for sharing such beautiful thoughts and so many valid points.
      I agree with you.
This is a consumerist society. People are very greedy. "Yeh Dil Maange More!"
Purchases are not made as they are needy- rather as they have to 'show off' to the society :)
"This belongs to such & such brand & cost X amount!"
Then that dress will be hardly worn as everyone has "seen" it & it has become 'old' :) :)
Parents need to inculcate the right values...
Why blame the outside world. We make the world & we better do the right thing.
If clothes really created all that noise, we would be careful & listen to their voice :)
Lovely to hear from you! I feel blessed :)

i think if clothes could talk my clothes would say the same tooo, I have this thing of buying and then not wearing as I am too comfortable with the old ones ..

that reminds me i need to clear my wardrobe :)

    1. Yes, Bikram! Our clothes would complain such a lot!
Makes sense to buy only if we need as otherwise, there won't be any more space in the cupboard!
Clearing the wardrobe is a good idea :)

  3. If my clothes would talk, they would ask me to quit looking at their seems and finding if I can make them bigger.

Some clothes, especially cotton ones, do shrink after washing :) Not our fault!

  4. Anita yet again your hitting the nail right on spot....I strongly believe not to over collect clothes, done if you haven't worn it for 2 yrs in a row, but I do save the special ones in my wardrobe even if I don't fit in it anymore :)...If my clothes would they would say "please do iron me sometimes" :D....I hate ironing!

    1. Even I believe in the same, Vidhya. I do have clothes of my school & college days that are in great condition and my colleagues asked me if they were 'new' when I wore them for work! :)
Yes, starching & ironing is what our clothes would demand :)

  12. Great post and funny too!
The problem with me is: I buy clothes which look wonderful in the shop, but when I come home I don't understand why I bought them, then I give them away!
    Have a great week!

Some of us have Post-Buyer's Dissonance- wonder why we purchased something by spending so much!
Giving it away to the needy is a good & noble idea :)
You have a great week too!

  21. hahaha. I enjoyed the clothes musings. There are more than likely a couple pieces of clothing in my closet saying, "Hey, over here! Over here! Wear me. The decade isn't over yet!"
