Yet another terrible tragedy, an avoidable accident...
Yet another callous act that has claimed the innocent...
I saw the same news in yet another channel & felt a jolt.
Several past incidents appeared like a thunder-bolt.
Illegal sand-mining apart from faulty measures are the cause.
When there are laws in place, why no adherence to laws?
BLOW THE HOOTER before releasing the Dam's water.
Warn everyone beforehand & prevent such a sad matter.
Why yet another tragedy when an excursion turns deathly?
When will we ensure that our students enjoy their trips safely?
Sorry to find such things happening time & again...
Can we please help avoid yet another family's loss & pain?

Deeply pained that 24 Engineering students from Andhra Pradesh have lost their lives in an avoidable tragedy in Himachal Pradesh owing to the release of the Dam waters that washed them away...
This is a great source of sorrow not only to the mourning parents but to the entire nation.

It is indeed a terrible tragedy. My eyes well up everytime I see the news. Imagine the trauma the parents are undergoing :(

DeleteThis was a tragedy that could be easily averted. My heart goes out to the survivors who saw this happen right in front of their eyes. I get goosebumps each time I think of the sudden gush of water. I might never visit a dam now.

True Soumya. The words in your comment reflect my state of mind too. Even I thought about the survivors- the friends who witnessed the unfortunate incident of their friends getting washed away... They live but with unhappy memories... How terrible. Dams will evoke such feelings, even for people like us, who have felt the impact.

I have done that so many times, taking pictures from various places :( it feels terrible. Also it feels terrible as a teacher as I have done so many college trips with my students.

I can't imagine the plight of survivors who saw their friends drowning, the heart break of the parents. It could have been easily averted. How do the people concerned with such mismanagement live with their conscience?

Certainly an avoidable tragedy. In our country those in power refuse to create system and refuse to accept responsibility.

This incident was a real tragedy, yesterday only I saw the video of the same and am still feeling too sad about them. It is also a fact that they were not aware of this situation else they could have tried to escape from there. But to be very frank, if govt employees works sensibly, such incidents can be avoidable.

Locals may be familiar with siren, but tourists won't know what it is and what they should do. A safe approach would have been to release water in small lots- say 10% at a time and next lot after 15 mins... not release everything at once

But, in this case, the locals claim that they heard no siren.

DeleteIn the month of january, I was on those rocks near Beas river clicking pictures with my husband.. A very sad incident.. Will these government officials ever learn?? wait and watch something similar will happen within the next 10 years (or even less)...and then some more officials will lose their job.. that's all.. extremely disappointing
