The Home

I always wondered why my friend Mini never invited me to her home.

When she visited my home, we played. My Mom fed us yummy food.

Mini was absent for a week.

Our teacher asked who would visit her.

I volunteered.

The teacher shared her address with me.

I reached a shabby home.

Mini was sick and bed-ridden.

When she saw me, her eyes welled up.

Was Mini ashamed and afraid to lose my friendship as she stayed in this home?

I hugged her.

As I fed her the food my Mom had sent, I talked to her about school...

  11. Ah ! beautiful story. It recalled my childhood memory where there was a poor girl in my neighbor. She used to come to play with us everyday. She mentioned once that she never went to school. she was a daughter of a coal mine worker, her entire family was not educated so did she. She was very curious about school gossips. I was 5, at age and she might be 6 or 7 yrs old. I used to teach her everyday whatever I had learnt from school. Few Months later we got transferred and came to a new city. Present day I don't where is she however I can consider her as a first friend of my life.... :)

    Good post Anita....:)

The 1st photo is of the Friday Fictioneers prompt that inspired me to write this friendship story with 2 girls- one rich & one poor. I wrote my story.
Then, while looking for a good friendship quote to end my story with, I was delighted to discover this cute pic of 2 girls that is perfect :)

  20. A very sensitive story of friendship and I remembered the story of Lord Krishna and Sudama. The hierarchy of wealth , class and caste should not affect the bond of true friendship. A lovely story Anita.

  28. Anita, saw you on ABC! This is a sad, touching story. I know it was true for my mom (as the daughter missing school and holding down the fort during the Depression). She always told me about her girlfriend Marilyn, who was the only kid in class who would take time to see what had become of her friend. On behalf of my mom and her struggles, I thank you for a look at the girl "on the other side of the glass." Amy
