There was a sparkle in his eyes.
I sensed my creation’s cries.
I knew my mermaid has power.
I realized art metamorphoses man into robber.
As insanity gripped him, I watched shocked.
Note- If you’re on your way, my mermaid is locked...
My 42 Words Poem for YeahWriteMe#16
Wow, Anita. Sadly, art does sometime evoke greed instead of appreciation.
ReplyDeleteYes, Kiran. There are thieves all around. But, a great work of art can tempt & turn even a normal person into a thief! :)
DeleteFantastic job!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to my Blog! Thanks for the appreciation :)
DeleteInteresting metaphor -- and twist to the prompt!

DeleteWhen I think of Mermaid, I think of the FairyTale- Little Mermaid & the statue to commemorate Hans Christian Anderson. Glad you liked my poem :)
this mermaid is not for sale...it was one of the things I thought when I started writing. It's a treasure and not on the market.
ReplyDeleteLoved the analogy.
Yes Kir! This treasure is not for Sale! Carefully preserved in locker :)
DeleteThanks for visiting my Blog & sharing your words. I treasure them :)
Wow Anita, I loved how you've composed it. the idea struck me too, but I didn't know how to give it words. And I cannot find a better way than this now :)

DeleteYes, man's intentions get spoilt the moment he finds something that's worth it...
Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy :)
DeleteWow! A mermaid :) Good one, Anita!
ReplyDeleteThanks Aathira :) Mermaids are interesting!
DeleteI really like how the speaker is so in tune with the creation, to hear its cries.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer! Welcome to my space :)
DeleteThat's what art does to the artist as she is in tune with her masterpiece...
What a great twist and take on the prompt. I loved this!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for visiting & for such nice words.
DeleteDelighted that you loved it :)
Mermaid as a creation and narrator as creator -- nice perspective on the prompt.
ReplyDeleteThat's right, Meg. Thanks for stopping by & for your appreciation!
DeleteWow, this is wonderful. I love the point of view of the creator.
ReplyDeleteAnd I also love that it's near impossible to steal it from him
Welcome to my Blog! Thanks for your wonderful words.
DeleteThe creator has safely kept her work of art lest it be stolen or tempt the intentions of onlookers :)
Good, good stuff here. I enjoy your writing. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my Blog & sharing such nice words :) Glad you enjoyed reading this :)
DeleteAh, the power of the mermaid! Great obsessive rhyme at the end.
ReplyDeleteWelcome here Kymm :) Thanks for your appreciation :)
Deletei loved the metaphor you used !
ReplyDeleteThanks Ankur :)
DeleteYou are a great writer Anita, but, frankly, I didn't understand what was this poem about.... :( Hmmm, hope to gain more knowledge to understand poems better... In fact, I look for meanings of many words after reading your posts :) Ummm, I believe that is the way to grow :) And, you are helping me grow!
ReplyDeleteTC! Keep smiling :)
Oh Ok! Never mind, Sindhu! Actually, I haven't shared the prompt & hence you have faced the difficulty to understand.
DeleteThis poem was for the prompt- "Are you on your way to steal my mermaid?"
I have tried to answer the above question. If you are on your way to steal my awesome work of art- a pretty mermaid statue, then I have kept it locked as it's so amazing that people try to steal it the moment they see it!!!
A great work of art can turn a sane person insane and a good man into a thief :)
Sindhu, thanks for such nice words. Yes, we are all helping one another to grow.
Even I love the lovely company & feel blessed :)
