The recent Hindi Movie ‘Queen’ has a
number of lessons for you and me.
Here are my N Lessons from Queen:
(Note: This Post gives away much of the plot & story of the Movie)
N- New Love – New Love is tender
and crazy & may be short-lived!
Vijay is mad about Rani, does crazy
things for her & calls her his “Queen.”
N-
Nervousness – Nervousness is natural; But, say bye to Nervousness
Rani is nervous and fumbles when her
fiancé, Vijay, informs her just a day before their wedding that he will not
marry her as “their status doesn’t match anymore”. Rani asks Vijay, “Are you
nervous?” But, Vijay claims he is “being practical” by calling off the wedding.
But, Rani is nervous as her father is a heart-patient and how will he react?
N- New – Have the spirit to do
the New & explore Newer horizons.
Rani sets out for her solo trip- her
single honeymoon adventure to her dream city- Paris though she has never
travelled by flight before. She checks into the pre-booked hotel-room. Her
grandmother asks her to go out & explore as she has gone so far not just to
watch Television! Rani makes a new friend in Vijaylakshmi, a waitress in the
same Paris hotel. The experience metamorphoses her into a new person. Her
outlook & priorities change as the trip proves to be a voyage of discovery
and self-discovery. Rani introduces herself with a new name – Queen –
ironically the same name that her fiancé called her…
N- Nerves
- Hold on to your Nerves & Never give up!
Queen holds on to her nerves and her
bag when a thief tries to snatch it away. She holds on and wins!
N- Not Comfortable – Have the guts
to stand up for what you want; Never do what you are Not Comfortable doing…
Queen makes a last-minute change in
their plan in Paris as she is not comfortable & ensures that Vijaylakshmi
& she get a night-tour of Paris! They are responsible as they take a cab as they are drunk.
N-
Noticed! – It is easy to get Noticed & sought after!
Queen clicks
and shares Selfies of herself in clothes that get her noticed!
N – Nosy – Avoid Nosy & dramatic
people & their regressive thoughts.
Queen has nosy & dramatically
phony relatives even in Paris. Queen and her friend, Vijaylakshmi, have a good
laugh after they come out :)
N-
Novel – Novel experiences broaden the horizons and amaze the senses.
Queen lives
with 3 men of different nationalities in the same hostel-room.
Her French
friend gets introduced to “French Toast” thanks to Queen. When the French
friend says that it is new for him though he has lived in France, Queen answers
that “French Toast” is available only in India!
N- No Boundaries/Obstacles – Believe
in yourself & achieve as though there are No boundaries.
Queen says, “I want to do something”
Her friend asks, “Who is stopping
you?”
Queen remembers how her fiancé was
against her taking up a job…
N-
Nod & Nail it!- Nod, Grab & Nail challenges/opportunities that come
your way
When the
Amsterdam Restaurant-owner challenges Queen to prepare her “own food & sell
& make money at the counter” & asks, “Do you have the guts to do it or
are you scared?”, Queen nods, accepts & nails it! She successfully proves
her worth & the challenger admits - “Indian Cook is best.”
N- Naïve – Sometimes being Naïve is
the best bet; Being too Naïve isn’t good!
Queen is so naïve that she gets
scared of the noise in her neighbouring hotel-room in Paris. Also, Queen gives
naïve answers to her friend’s questions regarding the sex-toys! These lighten
the gravity of the otherwise embarrassing situations.
But, I was wondering about all those
toys that Queen bought as mementos for her family & friends! Being naïve
can be dangerous!
N- Natural – Be Natural &
accept yourself for what you are – your fears, dreams, hopes…
Queen and her three guy-friends are
all naturally afraid of the same – Lizard & scream together & clamber
atop the bed spotting it! Their common fear unites them together! Shows people around the world are scared of Lizards!
Also Queen and her three friends love to do their own thing and are free-minded individuals.
They also accept the concept of the wall & leave
behind their precious memories.
N – Net-savvy - Be Net-Savvy & use the latest Technology. Distance is no barrier, as technology is here to cheer!
N – Net-savvy - Be Net-Savvy & use the latest Technology. Distance is no barrier, as technology is here to cheer!
Being net-savvy, Queen makes great
use of the Internet while she is travelling abroad. We find her regularly communicating with her parents via
Skype.
N- No Idea/Clue – Others may have
absolutely No idea/clue for what makes perfect sense to us!
When Rani asks for “Hing” or
“Cooker”, no one in the Amsterdam restaurant has any clue!
N- Nurture – Nurture
relationships and friendships – both the old & the new.
Queen has
friends whom she can wake up at unearthly hours to know the English word for
‘Hing.’ (In case you are still wondering, ‘Hing’ is called Asafoetida in
English!)
When Queen learns that Taka’s parents have perished in
Japan’s Tsunami & that he is an orphan now, she hugs him tightly that
speaks of her love & nurturing bonds.
N- NO – Assertively say NO in
style to some people!
Queen says NO to what she doesn’t
like & says YES to what she does e.g. Queen attends the Rock-Show as her
friends are waiting for her!
N- Nice/Noble – Niceness earns
Niceness; Be Nice & Noble always! Niceness rubs off on others!
Queen has been a nice girl all her life. She has never
cheated, told lies, done wrong things, never burped as girls are not allowed to
burp!…
Queen is so nice that she instantly connects with
everyone and gives gyaan to people- like asking her smart friend
Vijaylakshmi to curtail drinking & that it’s unsafe to go for sex with
anyone. Queen bonds with the Pole-dancer Rukhsar & invites her home.
Queen is nice enough to realize that the reason for her
unhappiness may give happiness to another… She recognizes that her Japanese
friend, Taka, and other friends are happily dancing seeing her pre-wedding song
& dance- “London Thumakda”.
Queen also realizes that someone else is happy with less
than what she has.
N- Networking – Good Networking
& friends can enhance value
Queen’s hostel-room-mates
collaborate with her & help her earn & win the challenge in her
Golgappa food-stall. At the end, Rani Mehra is sort of a Social Media celeb
as her growing network garners lots of FB Likes for her status-messages and
“Sabse Favourite Moments”!
N- National Pride – Be proud of
our Nation, our Flag, our Food, our Movies, our Songs, our Heroes… We are the
ambassador of our nation wherever we are.
Queen values India & all things
Indian. Queen totally exudes Indianness- in her thoughts & values. The
moment she hears the Hindi Movie-Song in her Paris night-out, she
enthusiastically joins the stage to celebrate by dancing though she doesn’t
know how to!
Queen invites all the people – both Indians
& Foreigners - whom she meets on her foreign trip to visit India. She is a
great ambassador of India!
Queen is terrified that she’ll have
to share the room with three men and prefers to sleep outside. She calls her
Russian friend ‘Sikandar’ instead of his name- Alexander! She sees India’s Flag
just by tilting the other country’s flag. She decides to serve Golgappas – the hot
& spicy & yummy Indian snack- just like they are served for an Indian palate. The Western public
is first taken aback, but then, they relish the Golgappas in their original
form! Why should we change our originality?
She even shares her first kiss just
for India – to prove that Indians kiss best!
Hope & wish that we all invite
people to visit India. Then, our Incredible India’s tourism revenue will be up…
May we nurture the Queen in us & discover what we really want & learn & grow...
