One of the #IncredibleIndia crafts with motifs based on mythology, religion,
folklore etc dating back to the 5th Century BC practiced by the talented Raghurajpur artists in Puri, Odisha, India, was on the edge and was clinging on for dear life and support...
Festivals just came and went; neither Diwali, the Indian festival of light, brightened their lives, nor did Holi, the Indian festival of colors, spread any colors for those who made colorful art-works called Pattachitra and other works like "tal chitra, silk painting, stone carving, coconut painting, betel nut
painting, papier mache & masks, cowdung toys and ganjappa playing
cards"...
Pattachitra |
They artists put in a lot of painstaking effort of many days and months overcoming obstacles, sacrifices, challenges, yet were under-appreciated as they never earned the true worth of their intricate masterpieces as middlemen and touts picked up their paintings cheap & sold the same at much higher
rates & earned hefty profits by taking advantage of their hand-to-mouth existence that compelled them to sell off their artworks soon...
But, the traditional craft as well as the skilled artists of Raghurajpur
got lucky when modern technology helped them write a better future,
providing them a platform to showcase their art, promote and sell it
without the
interference of middlemen, that made the traditional Odisha art of
Raghurajpur village accessible across the world...
Pattachitra |
There was a happy ending as the new website for
Raghurajpur village profiled all the families with their contact details and listed their art work in their individual galleries, helping them to directly interact with the world as buyers connected with them and the artists earned their rightful due of attention, fame, respect and remuneration...
My Story for Five Sentence Fiction – Lucky
It will not remain Fiction.
We can bring in luck by buying #OdishaPattachitra & helping sustain the livelihood by filling the world of these Raghurajpur artists with the rainbow colors that they truly deserve...
