Paired Forever!

Raja and Rani were happily married.

They just celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary.

"What is the secret of your marriage?" everyone asked on their special day.

In this age of break-ups and divorces, this was like a fairy-tale as Raja and Rani served as the perfect "Paired Forever" example.

"The secret of any relationship is LOVE." they answered in unison.

When the celebration was over, Raja felt blessed that God had gifted him Rani.

He remembered the last 75 years they had spent together in spite of difficulties, helping one another.

Rani shared everything with him though he was a man of few words and did not talk much.

There was only one thing that Raja always wondered-

What did Rani keep inside that locked drawer in her dressing-table?

It was an old stylish lock... But, where was its key?

Raja liked to think that he and Rani were like lock & key - paired forever... one is incomplete without the other...

But, he always kept his thoughts to himself...

Small wonder, he never asked her about the key... nor shared what he felt for Rani...

Raja soon got his answer about the mystery-drawer after Rani passed away suddenly.

There was this key in her jewelry box that Raja was sure belonged to that mystery-drawer's lock.

He used the key and gingerly tried it on the lock.

The key fit perfectly!

The lock opened with a click. Raja's heart was pounding as he slid open the drawer....

What he found surprised him.

There were lots of dried roses...

Then, it struck Raja!

Rani preserved all those roses he had gifted her over all these years...

He often gifted her a rose, but never said a word that he loved her.

Raja felt words were not needed as the gesture, the gift, the fragrance... everything would speak for itself.

Those roses were Rani's precious possessions...

She kept them under lock & key lest someone throw them away...

    1. Yes, Sindhu. I modelled the story on my grandparents. But, my grandfather never even gifted a rose to my grandma. Wish he did at least that... There should be some expression of love...
