2 States - Book Review

Write Tribe's Day-4 Festival Of Words Topic- Book Review. The first book that came to my mind was Chetan Bhagat’s ‘2 States’!

The book has been filmed into a movie that is to be released next month. As a huge Bollywood fan, I have viewed its latest trailer/video! In fact, it has already notched up over 3 Million views in 6 days! This shows its popularity.
There’s something about real-life stories – the authenticity, the sincerity, the feeling of trust… Trust is a major factor that makes lasting connections.
Love & Marriage are serious topics in India. When this best-selling author decided to narrate ‘2 States- The Story Of My Marriage’, that deals with the real story of his love and marriage, it had to be a best-seller!

IIM students, Krish and Ananya, meet, become friends, and become more-than-friends when they fall in ‘love’. But, is the story this simple? Boy & Girl loving one another is not enough- the parents call the shots here. Now the challenge is getting one another’s family love one another.

There is kahaani mein twist (twist in the tale) as Krish & Ananya belong to 2 different States of India- He belongs to the state of Punjab, while she belongs to Tamil Nadu. All would have been well had the differences been celebrated, or at least respected…

But, it is War here with North India vs. South India where stereotypical thinking and judgment is freely brought to the fore. Nothing is spared, right from habits, qualification, colour of skin etc (I am not sharing any further details here as I really want you to read and discover them for yourself.)

What Parent-Management winning strategy do our hero & heroine adopt? Do their parents agree? Do they get to settle down together?
(Of course, they do! That's evident from the title of the book! It is the story of his marriage, remember?)

2 States answers a lot many questions with some witty answers and pulling emotional heart-strings through the 6 ‘Acts’- 1. Ahmedabad, 2. Delhi, 3. Chennai, 4. Delhi reloaded, 5. Goa, 6. Delhi & Chennai & Delhi & Chennai.

Chetan Bhagat’s attention to details, humour and candid story-telling style make this novel a winner.
Guess whom his novel is dedicated to?

    1. Seeta, surely. This is the author's personal story that he has shared with us. I admire people having the courage to present themselves at the cost of getting judged.... It'll be an entertaining movie as real meets reel! :)

  14. I have read all chetan bhagat's books starting from five point someone to what young India wants. I liked 3 idiots because of the characterization and the script. Hello (one night at call centre) was terrible. 3 mistakes of my life was real and the characters also did a reasonably good job. The book 2 states is witty and fast paced. The book has wonderfully set the plot and the essence of two different cultures of India. By the looks of the trailer, I hardly believe these small details of the book was captured at all !!!
Lets wait and watch how much justice the film does to the actual plot of the book :-)

  16. Let's wait, Anita ! I have loved this book as a simple one that'll help you enjoy the WE :) I was fortunate enough to listen to CB's talk at Dubai, and he said, it seems his MiL asks him why he doesnt go for a job ( he's sitting at home and writing books now, after quitting his bank job) and he thinks in his mind , " itna bada kaam kiya hai, ladki ko pataana ! badi mushkil se ek ladki pat'ti hai " :D :D :D

Yes, ladki ko patana is tough especially if she's from a different state and one has to build bridges to her parents too :)
CB doesn't need to go for work! Work comes to him now! :)
