Aye! Shhh! What do we hear?
The sounds of hatred
& fear…
What do our eyes see?
Unfortunately not
ecstasy…
Media reports that give shocks,
Human-hearts or stones &
rocks?
What do we speak?
That things make us weak/freak…
After what we hear &
see,
What can our words
possibly be?
Wish our World gave love
a chance-
Listen
with the ears of tolerance!
See
through the eyes of compassion!
Speak
with the language of love & emotion!
Then, what we’d hear,
see & say,
Would be so different in
every way…
Let there be love &
peace celebration,
For a better Planet Earth
for every generation…

Amazing...
Thanks Red. Means a lot!
DeleteHungry guns & knives are red-hot...
Shudder to think of the unfortunate hatred & bloodbath due to lack of love...
tolerance, compassion and emotion - definitely the need of the hour!
ReplyDeleteYes, Nabanita.
DeleteRumi had rightly recognized the three requisites- tolerance, compassion & love.

The language of love powerfully evoked, Anita:)
ReplyDeleteThanks Vishal :)
DeleteThough your poem was written in February, 2014, it fits the 2015 first prompt of the new year well. We definitely all need to practice a bit of tolerance. At this time the concept seems fairly obscure to many, but we can always hope that there will be a radical change in that regard this year. Happy New Year, Anita.
ReplyDeleteI was going to compose a new poem for the 'Listen' prompt. However, in light of the #CharlieHebdo incident, I felt this poem is apt and needs to be shared...
DeleteOur world needs tolerance. May we all strive for peace.
Happy New Year, Mary!
Yes and the language of love is something most people don't understand
ReplyDeleteAnd that's so sad... How tough can the language be to learn?
DeleteThanks for sharing, Suyash.
The rhyme of this makes it a pleasure to read. And I agree that ears of tolerance and eyes of compassion would make for a better world. I guess we can each start in our own little corner of the world.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your appreciation, peggy.
DeleteYes, I agree with you. We all need to make a beginning. Think global & act local.
This is sadly a very apt poem in the wake of what happened in France in the past few days. May we learn to listen and not just hear.
ReplyDeleteVery true, Gabriella.
DeleteThere certainly is a time in which some anger can be acceptable, but some of the strife that I've seen in my lifetime is way beyond bearable. I'll never understand why someone would fight or kill over a difference of opinion. Sad thing to turn on the news and just see horror. Used to be a time where I enjoyed watching the news, not so much anymore.
ReplyDeleteMany of us share the same views, Kenn.
DeleteThat's really unfortunate.
Thanks for your maiden visit and comment.
Just to let you know that I was here - over a year late - but I'm reviewing the entries to make sure the results of this contest are announced finally. My apologies for the inordinate delay. Keep writing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Corinne! You are most welcome to do so more often!
DeleteLooking forward to the results :)
