Patience Please!

Top post on IndiBlogger.in, the community of Indian Bloggers

I was standing in the Department Store’s queue for nearly 20 minutes. When it was finally my turn, I had hardly taken a sigh of relief when I found another shopper requesting me to allow her the chance to complete her billing first as she had a fewer items than I & also as she was in a hurry.

My nice & kind nature always obliges people when they make such requests. But, I have also seen people taking extra ‘advantage’! Like their friend barges in & wants to get her/his billing done before me as well as she/he also is also in a hurry & also has to leave with the first shopper!

Making way for people means I get late & get to test my patience further… And this has happened scores of times. Sometimes I feel - I must really be such a fool to allow so!

Have you noticed how the queue, in which you are standing, moves the slowest?! Adding to the madness, some people come up with great stories just to jump the queue! Others resort to plain hooliganism like ‘I WAS HERE FIRST! I had just gone to the Loo/Helpdesk/…!!!’

Recently, I had visited the Mall with my sister. She chose some garments that she wanted to try in the Trial-room. She was waiting in the queue.  When it was her turn after a long wait, a woman pleaded my sister to let her daughter in, as the latter had an 'appointment'. As they claimed that they just had 2 clothes for trial, my sister allowed them with the request, “Please make it fast”. You won’t believe what happened next! The mother started getting more garments for her daughter to try while my sister waited! The smart mother gave some more explanation & held up the Trial Room for a long time while it was my sister’s turn to examine her patience! What a smart idea of the mother to avoid waiting in the queue or use her patience!

I always wonder about the diminishing patience in everyday life. We adopt any means so that we don’t have to test our patience!

But, impatience can trigger serious health problems. Think of any situation in life, say a Traffic-jam. Do we have control on it? Then, why lose our patience & feel unhappy?

Thing is, we all are in such a hurry and have no time to pay 100% attention or to stand and wait!
I always remind myself of the line- “They also serve who only stand and wait” from John Milton’s famous sonnet “On His Blindness.”

I believe that God will reward those who have patience. Some day their time will come & their virtue will be hailed.

Wish we all had more patience to do basic things like- listen, explain, smile, acknowledge, motivate, think logically without jumping to conclusions… Many of the world’s problems could have been solved with extra patience.

My Mantra- Just hang on sincerely and patiently and everything will be lovely!

As I always feel so, I was delighted to read a fellow-Blogger & friend, Alok Vats Post-
Patience- The Secret Behind A Happy Life” that shares my views!
Do read it patiently to know HOW TO BE PATIENT

May we all accord Patience its rightful due in our life to make Planet Earth a better place.

  5. Awesome post Anita. You are spot on. People lack patience nowadays and i feel sad for them! Once you are impatient you will lose everything that you do from then. Patience doesn't win you anything. Reminds me of Sri Sri Ravishankar's quote "Patience with Others is Love, Patience with Self is Hope, Patience with God is Faith"!

    1. Thanks Krishna :) We need to decide what we want! Sometimes can't help when our patience gets tested too much!
I have shared the same quote in my Post “Patience with others is Love, Patience with self is Hope, Patience with God is Faith. ” ― Adel Bestavros
The quote is of Adel Bestavros.

  8. Patience comes from practice.

  9. People do take advantage as you said. If one gives chance to other to go ahead then he/she can't crib about it, after all you have consciously given up your turn.

Patience applies to different situations, like a child taking longer time to complete food, some people take longer time to move because of some handicap or try listening to a complain... more. Liked your motto: results will be lovely.

    1. Yes, Indrani. Some people take advantage while some consciously give up their turn.
I believe in Karma. We get back what we give. Not seen in this lifetime though! :)

Those are true insights. Yes, we need to be more patient with some people- the elderly, the sick, the kids...
We don't know about the results. God'll decide :) Thanks Indrani. :)

  10. No, patience is hard and it takes practice. Patience is really about having the inner strength to stick to your guns, face your fears, repeatedly let go of internal expectations, and have trust that it will all work out in the end...

    1. Very nicely expressed, Veena :) May we have the strength to do so :)
I saw an image in which a man is praying to God for 'patience' & not for 'strength' as if God gives him strength, then he'll 'bash up' all those who bother him! :)
